Nazareth Joy Home

Nazareth Joy Home is a charitable children institution caring for orphans and vulnerable children giving priority to those infected with HIV/AIDS. It is located at Ngarariga village,Kiambu County, Limuru division. It is a project of Nazareth Hospitalunder themanagement of the Hospital Administrator.

It opened its doors to admit children on 1st August 2011 and was legally registered for operationsunder theMinistry of Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Serviceson 12th June 2012.It operates within the set government policies and standards of operation as stipulated under the Kenyan Law.

The Home is a gift given to the Archdiocese of Nairobi by a Christian family from Ngarariga village. The family’s ambition was for the home to be used to benefit desperate children. With the intervention of Bishop David Kamau (Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi), it was decided that the home should be given to the FIHM sisters. The FIHM Regional Superior Sr. Mary Vanathayee was requested if the Sisters could take over the home and she gladly accepted.

The donation of the home came in handy as it mitigated the ever increasing need to care for orphan and vulnerable children in Kenya and also those identified at the Nazareth Hospital HIV/AIDs clinic- (which is commonly referred to as Holy Family Centre). Desperate orphans and vulnerable children served in this clinic and other hospitals in Kenya faces a great challenge due to lack of stable and caring guardians. This leads them to be placed in children homes which unfortunately, most of them do not give priority to HIV positive children or simply lack the capacity to deal with them. This leads to high mortality rates or few HIV drugs options for the future.

FAMILY MODEL

The management adopted the African family setting which is unlike many other children homes in Kenya. The model appreciates settling 8-9 children into a small family unit. Each family is headed by a dedicated and trained mother who provides care and affection to her family, cultivating a sense of security needed for the children’s development. They fulfill the role of a natural mother, guiding and supporting each child according to his/her individual needs and interests. They do all the normal things a mother would do while in her own home.

With this background in mind, Nazareth Joy Village in partnership with Tree of Lives organization has been undertaking a costly renovation project. This was with an aim of renovating the donated building and separating it to accommodate several smaller manageable family units.

The project commenced early in the month of February 2012 and completed in the month of October 2012. The completed building accommodates seven families each house with a capacity of one mother and eight or nine children.

The basic needs for these children including Accommodation ,Food, Education, Clothing and medication especially because of their HIV status. We depend on well wishers to meet these needs.
We therefore kindly request for your support either financial or in kind donations. We are confident you will appreciate our endeavor and help us compassionately touch a child's life and bring hope to these needy children.
